Virtual commissioning

Test your plant before it's wired

We deliver your complete control system — DeltaV configuration or Siemens PLC logic, with the operator graphics — on a VMware virtual machine. Your team runs, tests and learns the plant on a laptop, long before start-up.

How it works

From configuration to start-up, without surprises

Virtual machine
Operator graphics identical to the control room Control system configuration DeltaV · Siemens PLC — the real program AI PID AO Process simulation levels · flows · temperatures VMware image — runs offline, no hardware needed

The virtual machine stacks three layers that talk to each other, exactly as in the real plant:

  • ✓Operator graphics — identical to the future control room
  • ✓Control system configuration — the real DeltaV or Siemens program, not a mock-up
  • ✓Process simulation — levels, flows and temperatures that respond, so sequences run realistically
1

Configure

We engineer the control system as usual: functional analysis, configuration, graphics.

2

Package

Configuration, graphics and a process simulation are packaged in a VMware image.

3

Test together

Your team runs sequences, interlocks and alarms. Issues are fixed in the office, not on site.

4

Train operators

Operators practise normal and abnormal situations on their future screens.

5

FAT, SAT & start-up

Tested logic and trained people: commissioning can focus on the field.

Try it

A taste of the virtual machine

This mini-simulation runs in your browser. Change the inlet flow or the level setpoint and watch the controller react — the virtual machine we deliver does the same with your real configuration and graphics.

  • Your real configuration, not a mock-up
  • Normal and abnormal scenarios: trips, failures, restarts
  • Runs offline — no risk to the live plant
  • Reusable after start-up for training and modifications

What you can test on the virtual machine

  • ✓Sequences and batch phases, step by step
  • ✓Abnormal situations: trips, equipment failures, aborts and restarts
  • ✓Interlocks and permissives
  • ✓Alarms, priorities and operator messages
  • ✓Operator graphics, navigation and faceplates
  • ✓Control loops on a simulated process
  • ✓Handshakes with packages and third-party equipment (simulated)
  • ✓The functional analysis, checked against a running system
The difference

Without and with virtual commissioning

Traditional projectWith the LMA virtual machine
Logic errors are foundDuring commissioning, on the live plantIn the office, before FAT

For whom

Who uses it

Plant owners

New units, extensions and migrations: see and validate your plant before it exists.

Integrators & EPCs

Dry-run the FAT internally, then deliver a smoother FAT to your client.

Pharma (GMP)

Test the logic early and prepare test protocols on a running system — a GAMP 5 approach.

Operations & training

A safe environment to train new operators — now and long after start-up.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need the real hardware?

No. The virtual machine runs with VMware on a standard laptop or PC. No controllers, I/O cards or cabinets are needed.

Does it work for DeltaV and Siemens?

Yes. DeltaV configurations and Siemens PLC programs can both be run in simulation, together with the operator graphics.

How realistic is the process simulation?

Simple and effective: levels, flows, temperatures and equipment feedback that respond to the logic. The level of detail is agreed with you at the start.

What about software licences?

Any licences required by the control system vendor for simulation are identified with you at the start of the project.

Can we keep using it after start-up?

Yes: to train new operators and to test modifications before loading them on the live plant.
